Listen to Episode 10: Creativity

Everyone’s creative process is different, but remote and hybrid work have fundamentally changed the way we collaborate. How do we get unstuck when we can’t walk over to someone’s desk to brainstorm? And what’s the best way to turn the seed of an idea into something real, remotely

On today’s episode, we talk to musician, composer, podcaster, and creative powerhouse Hrishikesh Hirway about all things creativity: how to trust our instincts, the fine line between garbage and good ideas, the magic of creative partnership, and the ways remote work can actually help us stay inspired.

There's a way to look at beautiful things out in the world and just imagine that they're impossible for you to ever create because they're so perfect. I get to have this reminder all the time that there was a moment when they weren't perfect. And therefore, the thing that I'm doing and the thing that I'm making, even though it's not perfect right now, doesn't mean that it's without value or doesn't mean that it doesn't have a possibility of a future.

—Musician and Sound Exploder host, Hrishikesh Hirway

We’ll talk about:

  • How structure can enable creativity
  • Why capturing raw ideas is so important
  • The power of creative partnership
  • The advantages of remote collaboration

About Hrishikesh:

More resources:

  • Take a break. Go outside. Sometimes just changing your scenery or walking during a meeting can shake ideas free.
  • Respect the mess. Creativity isn’t tidy. If you have a rough idea, don’t override it. Just put it aside and come back to it.
  • Find an Idea Doula. It can help to partner with an analytical thinker while you flesh out ideas, so you can stay in a creative space.
  • Smoosh brains together. You don’t have to be in the same room to collaborate. Remote work can even unlock new possibilities.
